Nickelodeon Theater in Columbia, SC

The evolution of the theater on North Main Street in Columbia is unique. It first opened as the State Theater in 1936. It became the Fox Theater in 1962. It closed in the 1970s and was converted to retail space. In 2012, it reopened as the Nickelodeon Theater. It is very rare for a theater which has been converted to retail use, to be rededicated to its original purpose. Columbia is justly proud of the efforts of the Columbia Film Society for bringing this theater back to life.
