| Carolina Theatre - Columbia, SC |

seven Columbia Theatres in the Wilby-Kincey Theatre Chain - Charlotte, NC. (Palmetto, Ritz, Strand, Carolina, 5 Points, Star-Lite Drive-In and later the Richland Mall.) |

During WWII, Fort Jackson was the major Infantry Training Base for the US Army and the soldiers were allowed Sunday day-passes to leave the fort. Downtown theatres were the main attraction. Often they stood in lines around the block for the length of the feature to get a seat. The theatres opened at 1:00 pm and the last show was around 9:00 pm, getting out at 11:00. More than likely, a late show was helf after 11:00 to accommodate the crowds. Photos by Charles
