Pal Theatre |
![]() Jasper County Record - June 20, 1962 |
How can a theater that was operating in 1945 have a "Grand Opening" in 1962? We are looking for information on the Pal Theatre in Fairfax, SC. We hope to find out when it opened, where it was located, when it closed, and who owned and operated it. We know it was in operation in 1945, because it is listed in the 1945 Edition of Film Daily Yearbook. But, the advertisement from the Jasper County Record indicates it had a "Grand Opening" in June, 1962. Was it closed for a period between 1945 and 1962? We would love to hear from anyone who remembers going to the Pal Theatre. The personal stories are often the best source of information about what the theatre meant to the Fairfax community. Please let us know if you have any information or stories regarding the Pal Theatre. Comment: April 3, 2010 I grew up in Fairfax. My family moved there in 1972. I remember the theater building very well as it was a large Grey structure virtually in the middle of town right in front of a major intersection for road AND rail. Unfortunately the theater was never in operation the entire time I lived there (since 1972). I do not know when it opened and I do not know when it closed but it would have been nice to have had a theater in town. The nearest open theater was about 15 miles south in Hampton. I have just been browsing Google street views and notice that I could not find the signature (plain old ugly) building. It looks like it may have been demolished. A. Sterling CLICK HERE to email us.
